Do And Then Redo

Hello there!

Yesterday Denise and I did another timed challenge together and I really struggled with this one. In fact, I struggled so much that I ended up changing a few things afterwards. So I feel a bit like a cheater but am happier with the results.

We used an awesome sketch from Frosted Designs. I flipped it since my pictures were horizontal pictures.

I had my ds draw 4 things from the hat. The 4 things he drew were:

Stickers

Stickles

Metal

Flowers

And since my metal had ink on it already we added ink.

We gave ourselves 45 minutes and at 3:00pm on the dot we both started! I knew which pictures I wanted to use so that part was easy.

But I couldn't find paper that worked with the metal I wanted to use.

I had gotten some metal inspiration from Christy at Scrap Our Stash on how to turn soda cans into works of art. And wanted to use these creations on my layout.

You just drink the soda, wash the can, cut the top and bottom off. And get busy with it. You can emboss it, ink it , cut it in shapes the list goes on and on.

I decided to play with my inks on the soda can metal. I LOVE how it turned out but I hate how it ended up looking on my layout. (you can just click on the picture and get a closer look at the metal)

I used paper and flower stickers from Nook and Pantry by Basic Grey. I thought they worked really well with the feel of the pictures.

I did use the metal pieces during our challenge and I put stickles on all the flowers. I fussy cut the floral strip that runs down behind the photos since I couldn't use ribbon.

I finished on time but it took every minute. Afterwards, I shared my pictures with Denise. And she shared her gorgeous layout with me. Hers is of her 2 kids at the park. (top photo) She rocked this challenge!!

She didn't think mine worked that well either (although she didn't say it like that) and suggested ideas for fixing it.

So I took off the metal bits (I will save them for another project) and added a few more flowers, new letters, a rub on and some staples.

I like it much better.

The top one is the "fixed" one and the bottom pictures are of the "original" one. What do you think??

The card in the middle is an awesome card that my 9 year old dd made for the Crafter's Companion Challenge Blog "flowers" challenge.

This challenge is going on all month and has a fabulous prize full of Fairyopolis goodies!! You should check it out.

She used a S.W.A.L.K. stamp that I got from Crafter's Companion that is just so sweet.

She stamped the stamp and colored it and then fussy cut it out. She attached it to the orange card stock card she made. She added the "best teacher" stamp sentiment. She found some blue ribbon in my stash and added that.

And then to ground the picture she cut some green paper to look like grass and glued it below the girl.

Isn't it super cute?? I'm so proud of her. She plans to give it to her teacher.

How was your weekend?? Do anything fun or crafty??

  12. I was wondering why you didn't like your layout--I was looking at the top one at the time. Now, I see that is NOT the one you didn't like! I love the top one!!! It is awesome! I can see why the metal didn't work with your layout, but I can also see how it would be fun on a different layout! Maybe the metal was just too "funky" for your subject and paper! Awesome card by your daughter!! :-)

  13. Olivia, rockin' card! Glad you got yourself in to win that yummy prize :) Did you cut that out yourself?

Stacy, adorable layout, I like the changes, but I liked the original too! Can't wait to be able to play along with this challenge the next time you to crazy cats do it :) For me, that's the challenge...a time limit. I can take all day, or sometimes multiple days, to truly "finish" a layout. It will be a huge challenge :)
